Due to the constant rise in fossil fuel prices, hybrid cars are getting more and more popular these days. A hybrid vehicle uses the combination of the traditional internal combustion engine propulsion system with an electric propulsion system. The result of this combination is a vehicle with better fuel economy and even better performance compared to conventional vehicles. Hybrid vehicles exist in the form of hybrid cars, trucks, as well as buses.

Lexus is one of the several car brands that have implemented this green technology into their cars. Lexus is a luxury vehicle division of the Toyota Motor Corporation, which happens to be the world’s largest car manufacturer. The first Lexus hybrid car was introduced in the year 2004. Ever since, this marque has committed to produce more hybrid cars for the auto market. According to Takeshi Uchiyamada, the Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor Company, the company plans to release six new hybrid vehicles by the end of 2012: four under the Toyota brand, and the other two are from Lexus. New Car Sales in 2011

The sales of new cars so far in 2011 have been disappointing to the car industry as sales for June 2011 fell by 6.2 percent over 2010 figures. And the average rate of decline for the first half of 2011 stands at 7.1 percent. But it’s not all bad news for the car industry as a slow and steady economic growth in the second half of 2011 should see volumes increase.

The big winners in the showrooms are diesel cars as customers seem to be focusing on buying what they perceive to be more economical vehicles. Figures show that the petrol-car market share fell by over 14 percent in June 2011 while new diesel car sales were up 4 percent.

The top selling new car in June was the Ford Fiesta followed by the Ford Focus and the Vauxhall Corsa. The Vauxhall Insignia was the best selling diesel car and in fourth place in the overall sales. Read more
